On 1 April, a very special image was published on Platform X (https://x.com/satofishi/status/1907286344168276215): the crew of the Fram2 space mission apparently took the first medical X-ray image in space - and our dicomPACS®DX-R software was used.
The image was taken on the second day of the mission, when the crew - as they themselves write - ‘took a few X-ray images after breakfast’. What at first sounds like an April Fool's joke is actually a significant milestone in the history of medicine.
It is no coincidence that the image is reminiscent of the very first X-ray image ever taken: Wilhelm Röntgen's famous image of his wife Anna Bertha's hand from 1895, except that this new image was taken around 400 kilometres above the earth.
The Fram2 mission is carrying out over 20 scientific experiments, including tests with an ultra-portable X-ray system. The fact that our software solution works reliably even under weightless conditions fills us with great pride - and shows once again how flexible and powerful dicomPACS®DX-R is.
dicomPACS®DX-R - developed for use on earth. Tested in orbit.
