Michael Beihsner's veterinary practice in Ebergötzen near Göttingen has been operating since 2005. Veterinarian Beihsner and his team treat small animals as well as horses. They focus especially on acupuncture and chiropractics and apply both of these treatment methods on small animals and horses.

In spring 2009, Michael Beihsner decided to change over to digital X-ray imaging in order to improve the quality of X-ray diagnostics and chose a mobile digital X-ray system by OR Technology – the Leonardo 1210P suitcase solution.
Flexible use: suitable for the practice and in the field
“The user interface won me over straight away as it is easy to use,” says Mr Beihsner. “The entire package of the offer including price-efficiency and the short delivery period made up my mind.”
The veterinary practice was equipped with a 12” x 10” flat detector with CSI screen as well as a 17” laptop with the dicomPACS®DX-R image acquisition software. For mobile use, the X-ray system is housed in a suitcase on wheels. dicomPACS®vet controls the entire image management including integration into the existing patient management system.
“In my opinion, the major advantage of the Leonardo suitcase solution is the fact that I can use the system for appointments in the field – especially for examining horses – as well as for X-ray imaging at the practice,” Michael Beihsner explains.
Easy exchange of data
“I often conduct pre-purchase horse examinations, dealing with international customers. In such cases we cannot do without fast data exchange of the X-ray images taken. The digital Leonardo X-ray system meets these requirements optimally,” says the vet.
In addition, the dicomPACS®DX-R software provides the option of capturing repeat procedures as Macros which furthermore streamlines the process of taking X-ray images for pre-purchase examinations.
Comparison with analog X-ray imaging
“Previously, I had an analog X-ray unit with all its disadvantages, like the extra steps of developing, wet chemistry etc.,” explains Michael Beihsner. “Thanks to the quick work process from the patient's registration to the X-ray examination and transferring the image to the viewer, it is much easier for us in a small animal practice to diagnose by means of X-ray imaging.
Even the image quality is better in almost all aspects compared to images taken with an analog X-ray unit. Amongst the options of computer-supported image processing, I often use the filter function. All in all I am very happy with the Leonardo system.”
